Cookie Policy

Last updated: 5 November 2026

1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how Hoyles uses cookies and similar technologies on hoylesonline.com (the "Website"). It tells you what these technologies are, which ones we use, why we use them, how long they stay on your device and how you can control them.

Hoyles is a trading name of Novaro&You, a business registered in the Netherlands (KVK 97957658, VAT NL005299025B62). In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Hoyles / Novaro&You.

This policy is written in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Where our activities in the Netherlands are in scope, we also follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the Dutch Telecommunications Act (Telecommunicatiewet).

This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains in more detail how we handle your personal data, and our Terms of Service.

3. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your computer, phone or tablet when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently and to give the website owner information about how the site is used.

Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by another organisation, for example a provider whose service is built into the website, are called third-party cookies.

Cookies can be session cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, or persistent cookies, which stay on your device for a set period or until you delete them.

In this policy, "cookies" also covers similar technologies that store or read information on your device, such as local storage, session storage, pixels and tags. They are used and controlled in the same way as cookies.

4. How We Use Cookies

We sort the cookies on our Website into four categories. Only the first category is used without your consent.

4.1 Strictly necessary cookies (always active)

These cookies are essential for the Website to work. They let you browse the store, add products to your basket, go through checkout securely, log in to your account if you have one, and they remember the cookie choices you make. Without them, the services you ask for cannot be provided.

Under PECR, strictly necessary cookies do not need your consent. You can block them in your browser settings, but parts of the Website, such as the basket and checkout, will then stop working.

4.2 Preference cookies (only with your consent)

These cookies remember choices you make on the Website, such as your country and currency settings or recently viewed products, so that you get a more personal experience and do not have to enter the same information again.

4.3 Analytics cookies (only with your consent)

These cookies help us understand how visitors use the Website, for example which pages are visited most, how visitors arrive at the Website and whether pages load correctly. We use this information to improve the Website, our product range and the delivery and tracking experience. Where possible, the information is used in aggregated form.

4.4 Advertising cookies (only with your consent)

These cookies are used to measure the results of our advertising and to show you relevant adverts on other websites and platforms. They may be set by advertising partners we work with, such as Google and Meta. These partners may combine information from our Website with information they already hold about you, under their own privacy policies.

We only place or read analytics and advertising cookies after you have agreed to them. If you reject them, you can still use the Website and buy from us in exactly the same way.

5. Cookies We Use

The table below lists the main cookies and similar technologies used on the Website. Our store runs on the Shopify platform, and Shopify sets most of these cookies on our behalf. Cookie names and durations can change when Shopify or another provider updates its service. We review this list regularly and update it when our use of cookies changes.

Meta advertising cookies, such as _fbp and _fbc Meta Measure the results of our adverts on Facebook and Instagram and show relevant adverts there Up to 3 months

5.4 Other services embedded on the Website

Our Website loads fonts from Google Fonts. Google Fonts does not set cookies on your device, but your browser sends your IP address to Google so the fonts can be delivered. Our Website also links to our Instagram page. Instagram may set its own cookies when you click through to its website, under Meta's own cookie policy.

6. Your Consent

When you first visit the Website, a cookie banner asks for your consent before we place any preference, analytics or advertising cookies. You can:

  • accept all cookies;
  • reject all non-essential cookies; or
  • manage your preferences and choose per category.

Rejecting is as easy as accepting. Until you make a choice, only strictly necessary cookies are used. We record your choice in the _tracking_consent cookie so that we do not ask you again on every page. We ask you again after 12 months, or sooner if our use of cookies changes significantly.

If you reject non-essential cookies, the Website, your basket and checkout continue to work as normal. Our adverts may then be less relevant to you, but you will not see more of them.

7. How to Change or Withdraw Your Consent

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any use of cookies before you withdrew it.

  • Cookie settings: open your cookie settings to change your choices per category.
  • Clear your cookies: if you delete the cookies stored for hoylesonline.com in your browser, the cookie banner will appear again on your next visit and you can make a new choice.
  • Browser settings: most browsers let you see, block and delete cookies. Blocking all cookies, including strictly necessary ones, will stop the basket and checkout from working.

You can find instructions for managing cookies in the help pages of your browser:

You can also limit personalised advertising through Google Ad Settings and Your Online Choices.

8. Third-Party Providers and International Transfers

Some cookies are set or read by providers who process the information for us or under their own terms, such as Shopify, ParcelPanel, Google, Meta and our payment providers. Some of these providers process data outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, including in the United States and Canada. Where this happens, the transfer is protected by an adequacy decision or by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. More information is in our Privacy Policy.

Where third parties use information from cookies for their own purposes, for example to personalise advertising across websites, they do so as independent controllers under their own privacy and cookie policies:

9. Your Rights

Where cookies collect personal data, you have rights under the UK GDPR, including the right to access, correct or delete your data, to object to its use and to withdraw consent at any time. To use these rights, email info@hoylesonline.com with the subject line "Data Protection". We reply within one month.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. If you are located in the EU or EEA, you may also complain to your local data protection authority or to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we add or remove cookies, when our providers change their cookies or when the law changes. The latest version is always available on this page, with the "Last updated" date at the top. If we start using a new category of non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent again through the cookie banner.
